Introduction to the Qualification

Level 2 Award in Promoting Food Safety and Nutrition in Health and Social Care or Early Years and
Childcare Settings (RQF) is regulated by Ofqual.

Qualification Purpose

The purpose of the qualification is to develop the knowledge and skills required to work with food in
health and social care, early years and childcare settings. Food safety requirements are included as
well as developing skills in contributing to and / or promoting nutrition and hydration to enable
learners to support individuals to eat and drink. It is suitable for learners who are employed in the
sector who may be preparing for a new role or are working in a role that involves handling food
safely and supporting an individual with their nutrition and hydration needs. The qualification
includes assessment in the workplace therefore learners must either be employed in a suitable job
role, on a work placement or volunteering.

Entry Requirements

There are no specific entry requirements however learners should have a minimum of level one in
literacy and numeracy or equivalent.
The qualification is suitable for learners of 14 years of age and above.

Progression

Successful learners can progress to other qualifications such as:

  • Level 2 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care
  • Level 3 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care
  • Level 2 Diploma in Care
  • Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care
  • Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce
  • Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce
  • Level 2 Certificate in an Introduction to Early Years Education and Care
  • Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator)
  • or employment in a health and social care or childcare setting e.g. as a care worker, support worker or childcare assistant

Structure

Learners must achieve at least eight credits; four credits from the mandatory units and at least four
credits from the optional units
